There effective ways of doing this, remember twitter is a place where people go to establish connection with friends and colleagues. If you whant to be successful in twitter and be able to promote your service or product in an effective way, don't try to promote at ones. Look at it this way, make believe you are entering a party where lots of people you don't know are gathering and having conversations, imagine once making your entrance you make a loud statement and say... Hi every one! My name is John Dow, and i want you to know that my product its the best of the entire world and you need to by this from me now!....what will be the reaction of the others?
You will be left alone in no time. That happens exactly when people try to promote in twitter the first moment they interact with a person, this turns off any good person relation toward connecting with you.
You have to establish relations and mingle among those in your niche, get to know there frustrations and needs, offer valuable content.
How to grow your list fast?
To grow your list, you must find some leaders in your niche, and follow at least 7 to 8 pages of a different leader every day. After two days unfollow does who don't follow you, this way you make space to continue growing your list, and remember, show some love to who do follow you back.
Oh and don't forget to make your profile bio relevant to your true personality and purpose or mission in life, this way you will attract like minded persons that might be willing to work with you in the future.
